Preparation

There are so many things to think about before going to school that I have lost count. I seriously don’t know how am I going to manage all these in the next few months. It is sometimes nerve wrecking – but think about it in the terms that you are going to start a new venture and you have to plan it accordingly. The finances, moving, laptop, furniture sale, credit cards, driver’s license, vehicle registration, apartment hunting, volunteering planning etc. etc. etc. The list goes on and on and on. How agonizing?

I have almost decided that I am going to resign by May but will wait till April before I give notice. I am sure that lot of people in office will be really surprised. But, I have told one of my colleagues who is a very close friend of mine and he is really helping me out with the analysts reports, market data etc. in preparation of school. I think people actually look at you with a different eye if you are going to a Top-10 Business School. Not that I am great (for some maybe J) but that I have done something respectful, especially in carving out a career path in tune with my future plans.

I have really gambled with my application this year. I didn’t have any safety school as such this year – since I thought that I would only go to a school where I would really love to go. Anyway the gamble paid off.

For next year applications, get the GMAT off your list first – that is the most time consuming part of the application after the essays. Once you have GMAT off your way, then you can seriously work on your essays – or the anticipation kills you. You always start thinking that what would happen if your score is in the 600s - Do you have to change your strategy and apply to a different set of schools after that. And especially it is important to start on your essays early – work on them meticulously without thinking about the end results and at the end of it, you are going to reap the benefits. I have been really busy this week and I haven’t forgotten what I have promised – the MBA advisory series. The advice will be mostly generic but I would like to specially address the techies. My first section will talk about MBA strategy, which I think is the most important.

And so, we have 3 bloggers who have agreed about an exclusive blogger community get-together - Yogi, me and chunky; we need some more votes before we can decide on the location and the dates. And I am 100% serious about it.
